Michael Essien Injury Blow

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season training.

Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is set to be sidelined for a long spell facing a major knee injury in training. Essien 28, has been troubled by knee problems in the past. Essien was immediately taken to the hospital and he will go through scans in a day or two to determine the extent of injury. Now Chelsea will surely eye a replacement for the midfielder as he has been the most important part of Chelsea squad since joining from Lyon in 2005 for £24 million. Chelsea may raise their bid for Tottenham's Luka Modric as he would be the ideal replacement for Michael Essien.
